Math

Math gaps close when you fix the foundation, not the symptom.

Middle and high school math, taught so the base is solid instead of patched. Most struggles trace to a gap two or three steps back, and finding it is the whole game.

What it actually is

Math is uniquely unforgiving in one way: it builds. A shaky grasp of fractions becomes a shaky grasp of algebra becomes a shaky grasp of everything that algebra holds up. When a student is struggling with the current topic, the real culprit is almost always a gap a few steps back that never got filled.

So I don't just re-teach the chapter the student is stuck on. I trace the struggle to its source, find the foundational piece that's missing, and rebuild from there. It's slower at first and far faster in the end, because once the base is solid, the topics that felt impossible start to click in sequence.

I work with students from pre-algebra through algebra II, geometry, and trigonometry, as well as the math sections of the SAT and ACT. Whatever the level, the approach is the same: understand the why, not just the procedure, so the knowledge actually holds.

What I cover

From foundations to the test sections.

foundations

Pre-algebra & Algebra I

Fractions, ratios, linear equations, the grammar of all later math. This is where most gaps originate, and where filling them pays the biggest dividends downstream.

core

Algebra II & Functions

Quadratics, exponentials, systems, and the function thinking that underpins precalculus. We build genuine fluency, not memorized steps that evaporate after the test.

visual

Geometry & Trig

Proofs, coordinate geometry, the unit circle. We connect the visual and the algebraic so it's a coherent picture rather than a pile of formulas to memorize.

applied

SAT / ACT Math

The test sections draw from a finite syllabus and reward trap-awareness and speed. We drill the recurring question types and the shortcuts that save precious minutes.

Your plan

The gameplan bends to the student, not the other way around.

Because math struggles are so often rooted upstream, the plan starts with diagnosis: not 'can you do this chapter' but 'where exactly did the chain first break.' Once we find that, the path forward is usually clearer and shorter than it looked.

If a specific topic won't click
We trace it back to find the missing prerequisite, rebuild that, and then the original topic often falls into place with far less effort than grinding at it head-on.
If it's a confidence problem
Math anxiety is real and it compounds. We rack up early wins on solvable problems to rebuild the belief that this is learnable, because it is.
If you're prepping for a test
We shift from open-ended understanding to the specific, finite content the SAT or ACT actually tests, plus the pacing and trap-avoidance those sections reward.
If you're ahead and want to stay there
For students who are doing fine but want to get genuinely strong, we go deeper into the why and push into more challenging problem-solving than the classroom demands.
